June 2 – Commack to New York, NY (47 Miles)
Good morning and greetings from New York City
We’ve traveled a total of 231 miles. It was another bright sunny day yesterday with temperatures in the mid 70’s again. We started the day in Commack, Long Island. The first dad to be honored was cowboy Steve from Atlanta, Texas (this is not a typo). Many thanks to the Suffolk County Police Department for sending six cruisers to provide an escort through and around some of the dicer neighborhoods west of Commack. A special shout out to officers Rich Long and his partner Shawn, two young dads, for purchasing copies of the 21st Century Dads book.
From Queens to Manhattan
We pedaled through many towns including Queens and along the scenic Garden City Trails. We crossed over into Manhattan on the Queensboro Bridge and arrived at 299 Park Avenue, one of UBS’ offices in Midtown. Special thanks to my UBS partner Matt Buchsbaum for organizing a little after hours reception for the riders, crew and some NYC friends including college buddies Ed Roland and Kevin Maxwell and high school friend Justin King, who also rode from Boston to Providence. Also, special thanks to Kenny Moore at Monet Hennessy for providing some libations. Here is a link to the Channel12 coverage from Commack: News12 – 21st Century Dads.mov I’ve also included below some photos to provide you with some visuals.
If you’re looking for a Father’s Day gift, please consider a Great Dad Coin as well as purchasing a copy of my new book entitled 21st Century Dads: A Father’s Journey To Break The Cycle Of Father Absence, available on Amazon here. As a reminder, all the proceeds go to charity.
Off to downtown Manhattan this morning to catch the Pier 11/Wall Street ferry to NJ. Your prayers are also welcome 🙂
Thanks again. Make it a great day!!!
David Hirsch
