June 6 — Winslow, AZ to Gallup, NM (140 Miles)
This was supposed to be a 125 mile day, except for the fact the ride was cut short by 15 miles yesterday, due to lightning. So we started riding today, 15 miles west of Winslow, where we left off yesterday. Did I mention it was still raining when we started riding? No time to complain, just start pedaling.
After snapping some photos at the infamous “Standing on the Corner” location in downtown Winslow it was off to Gallup. The rain subsided after a few hours and it was smooth sailing the rest of the day. We said good bye to AZ and hello to NM and it’s only day number three. Since we had a lot of riding to do we decided to forego the longer ride through the Petrified Forest, but did notice some dinosaurs as we were passing by. This was the second 10k calorie day. Very thankful for a good tailwind most of the day. We had a nice meal at the Badland’s Grill. Another Big day. An amazing 738 miles covered in just 6 days. Who’s idea was this?
- One of six flats in as many days all due to radial tire wires scattered everywhere.
- Classic
- Rain or shine, we’re going to make it to Chicago by Father’s Day.
- Outside the Petrified Forest.
- A random store front.
- A little bit of history about “The Mother Road.”
- Rain starting to let up.
- Typical 60s style motel. One of the survivors.
- After dinner at the Badland’s Grill.
- Lots of miles covered in a relatively short time. Thank you God for the tail wind.
