21 DAYS, 1 BIKE, AND 2,355 MILES Being a dad in the 21st century is more challenging than in previous generations. More is expected from us, and research indicates that children benefit from a higher level of engagement with a father or father figure. Dads, we need to up our game! The recent Dad’s Honor Ride 2015 was the inaugural event of the 21st Century Dads Foundation (see box). The journey started on June 1, 2015 at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier in California—loosely following the historic Route 66—and concluded on Father’s Day, June 21, in Chicago at U.S. Cellular Field.

Fathers pedaled from Lynwood to Palm Springs during a 2,100-mile bike ride. The Dad’s Honor Ride will raise funds for the first Boot Camp for New Dads program at the St. Francis Medical Center in Los Angeles. The program will support local charities that encourage fathers to be part of their children’s lives and develop close relationships with them.
