DHR17 Day 5 — Petoskey to Engadine (95 Miles)
Greetings from the Upper Peninsula. We had another really good day. The weather was close to optimal with overcast skies and temperatures in the low 70’s. There is more elevation in the UP than the LP and the headwinds riding west were somewhat of a grind.
Downtown Petoskey is picture perfect and the wagon wheel trail leaving town was first rate. We ran into construction again on US31 but a parallel bike path was our savior. We made it to Mackinaw City and across the five mile long Mackinac Bridge by noon. We had lunch at one of the scenic overlooks on the north side of Lake Michigan. Riding along Route 2, which runs along the lake, reminds me of the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to Malibu. By the way ‘what’s a Pasties?’ We arrived at 6pm at our destination, the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club, a magnificent 36k acre property that is enjoyed by it’s 1,100 members and their guests. Special thanks to Jim & Ann Wood for sponsoring us and allowing us to stay in the smartly appointed guest cabins.
The day ended with dinner at the Village Pizza in nearby Naubinway with Doug Sanborn the GM at the Hiawatha Sportsman’s Club. The sunset overlooking Millecoquins Lake was breathtaking. Five days down four to go. We’ve covered 501 miles so far. Photos below.
Special thanks to those who have supported the DHR and work of the 21st Century Dads Foundation.
Thanks Again. Happy Tuesday!!!
